FULLY FUNDED: The All New Gobber's Guide to Hearth and Home

Hi Everyone!
It is official! Gobber's Guide to Hearth and Home is fully funded! Don't worry, we won't keep posting about other projects here, but as it is now funded, we wanted to share a little about whats going on over there!
Our next goal is just 8K away. Our first extra Subclass option, Gift of the Gab Rogue.
These larger than life characters do things a little differently to your normal rogue. Instead of doing all they can to not be seen, these rogues want to be front and center of attention.
A success on a charmed, intimidate or performance check will make their mark charmed, and once they are charmed, the Gift of the Gab Rogue has a range of options to get what they want. Leverage the charmed effect to continue to manipulate or befriend them. Or cash it in for one big sneak attack they never see coming. Best of all, they can charm more than one person at a time, so plan ahead, and line up all those suckers for when your party are ready to strike.
Unlimited Realms Ltd Patreon and Discord
Those not following our Kickstarter may not have heard. We have also started an Unlimited Realms Discord and Patreon. These are to help us communicate with the community better. Let us share play testing material, give you insights on what we are working on as well as easy access to all our older projects and content! If that sounds interesting, please feel free to take a look!
Love you guys, Mat from Unlimited Realms
On the subject of Dave and Desert towns - An Unlimited Realms Update

Dave here with another sensational update! I know you have been mainly hearing from Mat, here at Unlimited Realms lately, and wanted to give a bit of an explanation of why that is, an update for what it means for Unlimited Realms and share what I have been personally working on recently for our next Kickstarter (A little bit of news, a little bit of a sneak peek, an update can do two things!)
Dave News!
Before we take a deep dive into some of the exciting content for Gobber’s Guide to Hearth & Home, I wanted to share some exciting personal news: my partner and I are expecting our second child! It’s honestly been a whirlwind of excitement for both of us, not to mention my son’s eager anticipation for a little sibling to play ‘Godzilla vs Trex’ with…
With this latest news, alongside some personal challenges that have emerged over the last year, I have talked with Mat and made the difficult decision to (for the foreseeable future) stand down from my role as CEO at Unlimited Realms Ltd. As the founder of the company, it was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make, but ultimately, I had to ensure I prioritized the one thing that I think every member of this community will understand: getting my son addicted to introductory TTRPGs family.
I won’t be going away any time soon, as I will still be actively involved in the development of the upcoming projects and have the utmost confidence in Mat not just to continue our record of high-quality work, but to exceed it, too!
Now, enough with that sappy stuff! Let’s take a look at what you really want to check out!
Small Stuff Sets the Scene
Player: “I pet the dog.”
GM: “The dog looks up at you with wide eyes, tail wagging as you scratch her behind the ears.”
Player: 😊
Although epic battles and moments of retribution often steal the spotlight in TTRPGs, immersing oneself in the GM’s world is one of the most powerful things a player can experience. Exploring the world through a character’s eyes can make moments that linger in memory, a simple act of connection that really brings a fictional world to life.
We all know worldbuilding is important, but how GMs flesh it out makes all the difference. This is one of the many areas we delve into in the upcoming Gobber’s Guide to Hearth & Home. The Unlimited Realms team has conducted extensive historical research to create detailed guides that inspire GMs when designing towns and cities, from mountain fortifications to villages scattered among desert plains.
Sneak Peak!
Below is a sneak preview of one such town type we explore in Gobber’s Guide to Hearth and Home. Whether you're seeking fresh descriptions for everyday life or exploring plot points that resonate with the local setting, we hope this sparks your imagination!
Desert Towns
These towns rarely experience rain and are exposed to great expanses of sand or stone.
Arid or semi-arid deserts are notoriously hot during the day, cool after sunset, and cold at night. A lack of landscape differentiation would exacerbate things further for residents, as only the town’s buildings will shield them from the unyielding elements.
The Economy
Ensure that there’s a good reason for establishing a town in such an unwavering environment, whether it be access to certain rare resources, a trade hub, or proximity to nearby water.
Water = Life. Without a water source, your town’s original settlement would not have been able to thrive into the town it is today without the aid of magic or immense logistical supply trains. Your town should center around a water source, whether based around a spring, a river, or a lake. Consider how locals revere this source and how cherished it is.
Arable Land. Arable land is limited in such arid environments; consider what diet your townsfolk will tend to consume and how reliant they’ll be on food sourced through external trade. Perhaps the food trade is cornered by a few powerful families.
Water = Wealth. Consider the more powerful people in this town flaunting their wealth by demonstrating their lackluster care for the sanctity of water. Perhaps they have a water fountain, bright green lawns on their estate, or maybe even a swimming pool.
The Buildings
Domed rooftops encourage air circulation.
Tall, open-plan buildings not only encourage air circulation within but cast cool shadows outside. The heat-resistant materials used should reflect what’s available in the local region, whether it be brick, mud-brick, or stone.
Bright colors reflect heat a lot better than dark colors. Depending on the culture of your town, consider buildings, rooftops, walls, or even roads being adorned with paint.
Mashrabiya are large windows made not from glass but from wooden lattice patterns. These allow cool air in while minimizing hot sunlight. Very few buildings will choose to have glass windows, but those that do will undoubtedly be for flamboyant, decorative purposes.
Underground structures are often cooler than above ground, so consider buildings that extend in this manner.
Narrow streets limit sun exposure, meaning longer hours of cool shade. Having longer, narrower streets also exemplifies the efficiency of breezes and funneling wind.
Flourishing gardens in the desert may seem contradictory, but low water-demanding trees and greenery assist in cooling local areas.
Windcatchers are tall structures designed to ‘catch’ wind and circulate cool air. This air can then be directed either onto streets or into buildings via vents, akin to air conditioning. There are numerous varieties and are worth researching in further detail.
Uchimizu refers to the act of sprinkling water on the streets. While providing both an immediate cooling effect and cleaning the street, it importantly limits the effect of dust.
Tarpaulin or cloth-based bunting is used to diffuse sunlight in certain areas, such as a marketplace or cafe.
The Culture
Wearing light, breathable clothing and face garments that limit sun exposure is essential. Wearing full-body clothing such as a thobe or abaya doesn’t have to reflect a conservative society; consider the intensity of the heat and the types of inhabitants who may be more vulnerable to fierce sunlight.
Umbrellas can be a handy shade-casting tool.
Heat stress is a serious issue, particularly affecting those who work outside in agriculture or construction, for example. As such, it’s extremely common for workers to operate at night when the temperature is far cooler and more bearable while sleeping during the day.
Siestas may be a cultural practice, with residents taking long midday breaks to avoid the intense heat, with business activities resuming in the evening.
Due to the exhausting nature of hot weather, socializing will likely take place after sundown, when outdoor dining and physical activities can occur in the cool. After a day of avoiding direct sunlight, people are more likely to spend time outside once the temperature is far cooler.
Cuisines may be based on non-perishable foods such as dried fruits, cured meats, and grains. Meals should be focused on cool, refreshing dishes and drinks.
Consuming hot beverages in warm weather can cool individuals down, but this only applies to species that can sweat. The high temperature of the drink consumed is offset by the amount of sweat evaporated from the body, resulting in a cooler body temperature. The same effect can be achieved by consuming spicy food.
Cooling and cleanliness may play an important role in your town; consider placing not only wells but also designated washing stations for citizens to quickly quench their thirst and refresh their bodies. Consider ceremonies associated with cleaning.
